June 6th, 2013 | written by Lanny Brooks

It’s official! The Second Chance Ranch at the Vandalia Correctional Facility is officially open. Yesterday was the grand opening and was attended by about 150 people including legislators, the Director of IDOC as well as Chairman William Berry and Executive Director Marc Laino along with Commissioner Hugh Scates fron the Illinois Racing Board. A presentation was made by Dianna Pitulski of the T.R.F. and myself representing R.A.C.E of the first horse to the program. Accepting was the instructor Jessie Maske along with two of the offenders. The place look great as we have three paddocks built as well as 16 stalls. We are very proud that this is the first program of its kind ever in Illinois. Horsemen can feel good about where their former runners are living out their days until we find permanent homes for them.

The annual H.B.P.A. golf tournament is quickly approaching. It will be at Arlington Golf Course wednesday June 19 at 10am. We have a board in the office. If you have a team come in and sign up or just call me at the office and we will put you on the board. The cost is $25 per man which includes a riding cart and dinner after.

The election is coming soon. Make sure you vote. If you haven’t received a ballot just call or come in the office and get one. Ballots will be counted on June 16.
