Graduation Day At Second Chance Ranch

Graduation DayAs you know our R.A.C.E. program is involved with a wonderful horse program at the Vandalia Correctional Facility. We now have a working ranch with twenty horses and inmates getting a second chance to begin a new life.

The inmates in the equine vocational program have been enrolled in the Groom Elite Program with Dr. C. Reid Mclelland and I’m thrilled to report that our first class of six offenders have graduated with above average scores and received their certificates. Upon their release they have been cleared to apply for an I.R.B. license by the Illinois Racing Board. We are already working on finding trainers in Chicago and downstate who are willing to hire these men as qualified grooms.

We are so thankful to the I.D.O.C. led by Director S.A. Godinez and especially the officials at Vandalia including Warden Victor Dozier, Assistant Warden of programs Lashonda Cameron  Assistant Warden of Operations Roger Moss , Vocational State Director Kathleen Mattingly and our Equine Coordinator Jessie Maske.
